Carbon Frontier

Located in the heart of Aera’s Belridge Field in Kern County, Aera’s proposed CarbonFrontier carbon capture and storage (CCS) project expects to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from existing produced gas streams and other sources at the Belridge Field and safely inject it deep underground for permanent storage.

Once operational in the late 2020s, CarbonFrontier will capture and store up to 40 million metric tons (MT) of permanent CO2 storage at the Belridge Field, helping with the state’s plan for over 100 million MT of storage per year.

CRC and its Aera subsidiary envision CarbonFrontier as a cornerstone to the potential development of a “carbon park,” at Belridge Field which may attract other businesses that need storage to decarbonize their operations.
