Dear Owners:
As you know, depressed demand for energy from the COVID-19 crisis and oil oversupply issues have been particularly challenging for CRC and the entire energy industry this year. Although CRC has taken many steps to manage our company through this crisis, the current environment requires us to take a further step to help us continue to be a good neighbor in California for many years to come.
We want to share some important news with you. CRC announced on July 15 that it has filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. We expect that this balance sheet restructuring will establish a solid financial foundation through enhanced liquidity and a significant reduction in debt, positioning CRC to succeed long-term and continue to deliver the energy production Californians rely on every day.
Importantly, we are continuing to safely operate in the ordinary course of business while we complete this process. CRC expects to continue to issue royalty checks on producing wells and other lease payments during this restructuring without interruption. In fact, we sought permission from the Court to allow us to pay lease, royalty and partner obligations without interruption, and were granted such Court approval on July 17, 2020.
We are considering adjustments to our drilling and production levels while prices remain depressed. If any changes affect our operations on your land, we will communicate with you as we normally do.
You can be confident that our commitment to healthy, safe and environmentally responsible operations will not change. Health and safety remain our top priority, and our workforce is continuing our rigorous inspection and monitoring in accordance with California’s world-leading standards.
More information can be found through our restructuring web site at https://dm.epiq11.com/CaliforniaResources. If you have any questions, please call our toll-free number, (855) 917-3506. You may also receive a Notice of Commencement from the Court by mail in the coming days. This document is intended to inform our stakeholders of the Chapter 11 process and should not be cause for alarm. It does not necessarily require any action on your part and is a notification required by the Court.
We appreciate the support of our landowners and partners and expect to continue our positive relationship with you. Please reach out if you have any questions.
